Your First Bridal Appointment: What to Expect and How to Prepare

So you’ve booked your first bridal appointment, congratulations! ? Whether you’ve been dreaming of this moment since childhood or you’re just starting to explore your options, your first time trying on wedding dresses is a major milestone. At Laurel&Lace, we’re here to make sure your experience is joyful, stress-free, and unforgettable.

Here’s everything you need to know to walk in with confidence and walk out one step closer to the one.

1. Book Early (and Smart)

Try to book your bridal appointment at least 9 to 12 months before your wedding. That may sound early, but custom orders and alterations take time, and the earlier you start, the more options you’ll have. At Laurel&Lace with some exceptions, all gowns are ordered to your size and custom orders take time but they’re well worth the wait when you walk down the aisle feeling your most beautiful.

Pro tip: Weekdays are usually quieter, giving you more focused attention from your stylist.

2. Know Your Budget

Before you fall in love with a gown, know what you’re willing to spend. Be honest with your stylist about your price range so we can guide you toward dresses you’ll love and feel good about buying. This ensures that your stylist does not select designs that may overshoot your budget.

Don’t forget to factor in extras like:

  • Alterations
  • Accessories (veil, shoes, jewelry)
  • Undergarments

3. Wear the Right Undergarments

While we provide clips and privacy, you’ll feel more comfortable and get a better sense of the dress if you wear:

  • Nude, seamless underwear
  • A strapless bra (optional, many dresses are built to support)
  • Minimal makeup to avoid transferring onto gowns

Bonus tip: Bring a hair tie if you’re considering an updo, it helps visualize the full bridal look.

4. Limit Your Entourage

We know it’s tempting to bring the whole squad, but less is more. We recommend 1 to 3 people whose opinions you trust and who will support you without overwhelming you.

Remember: Your voice is the one that matters most.

5. Keep an Open Mind

Many brides end up loving a style they never expected. Trust your stylist (and yourself!) enough to try something outside your comfort zone. It could surprise you, in the best way.

6. Take Photos, But Stay Present

Photos can be helpful for reviewing your favorites later. But don’t get too caught up in how a dress looks on camera. Focus on how it feels, how you move in it, and whether you can picture yourself walking down the aisle in it.

7. Be Honest and Speak Up

This is your moment, don’t be shy! Let us know what you love, what you don’t, and how you’re feeling throughout the appointment. Our job is to make sure you feel seen, supported, and celebrated.

At Laurel&Lace, your first bridal appointment isn’t just about finding a dress, it’s about creating a memory. We’re honored to be part of your journey and are here to make every step magical.
